Bridgeport resident Juan Torres, age 35, and Newtown resident Alexander Rosa, age 41, were arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 24, following the fight at the Rum & Tequila Bar in Bridgeport.
According to Capt. Lonnie Blackwell of the Bridgeport Police said officers responded to the club after receiving a call of a disturbance involving several people.
When officers arrived, a bystander said "There was a war going on inside," Blackwell said.
Once inside, officers found Torrest on the ground being restrained by another man who was "safely holding," police said.
After securing the gun, the officer then ran to the rear of the building where another fight was taking place with another patron holding down Rosa and he was handcuffed by officers, Blackwell said.
During an investigation, witnesses reported that both men, Rosa and Torres, arrived at the bar and immediately began to "act up." It was at this point that the owner approached both men with security and asked the men to leave, Blackwell said.
Blackwell said Torres then pulled out the handgun and a struggle broke out and another patron was able to throw him to the ground and take the gun.
The security guard was able to subdue Rosa.
Torres, a convicted felon, was charged with the following:
- Criminal trespass
- Disorderly conduct
- Criminal attempt assault
- Reckless endangerment
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Criminal possession of a firearm
- Violation of carrying an extended magazine
- Assault
- Criminal Violation of a Protective Order.
The bond was set at $110,000/
Rosa was charged with the following:
- Trespass
- Assault
- Breach of peace
He was issued a promise to appear in court at a later date.
"Fortunately, this incident was resolved without injuries due to the quick actions of our downtown business stakeholders in the community and responding Bridgeport Police Officers," Blackwell said.
